visiting Chicago

hey, I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I have a question for you guys. I might come and visit Chicago next week, around the 3rd. What I want to know is, is it a good time to see the city? Weather wise, and as activity wise for a couple of days? And taking into account I want to be in walking distance to all the attractions (and I walk a lot), where around is it better to stay?>
