I'd like to test a theory here. It's the theory, I believe, that is behind Rich Daley's strategy for Chicago's future. I believe, based on the Olympics and other actions and words from both the public and private sector in Chicago that this may well be the case. I'm not suggesting it should be "the plan", nor am in a position to know if it would be a success or not in this was in the minds of the Chicago power strucgture. It's just policy, strategy, what have you. And this is it (in the minds of our leaders): Chicago's has the potential of being a greater international city than in being a national city. Let's put more emphasis in the future on how we will relate to and profit from the globe rather than from the United States. Chicago, though strong compared to US cities, comes out stronger when viewed as part of the international community Do you think that is the mind set that is taking place (and, if you, feel free to assess its chances for success).> |
