Why isn't the West Side part of the game?

Leave downtown and there are three sides to Chicago: North, South, and West. Yet when comparisons are being made, there are only two: North and South.

Why doesn't the West Side gets its proper respect. I realize it is smaller than either the North or South and that Madison St can actually divide it into North and South. But it is still a large part of the city that does exist, but we tend to ignore that fact or, at the very least, fail to see it in terms of attribuites and personality the way we do the other two. Maybe things would have been different and MLB had three leagues, with North, South, and West side franchises.

Doe anyone else see the West Side as Chicago's forgotten step child?>
