What accounts for the color of Lake Michigan?

Okay, here's a question I've not found a satisfactory answer to but wonder about often. The waters of Lake Michigan (and, by extension, of Lake Huron) are often a fantastic, almost luminescent greenish blue (celadon?) I've not seen this color on any other of the Great Lakes.

What causes this greenish-blue lake color?>
