Reading an article in the Sun-Times today, they discussed the pending (this stupid thing's been pending for 2 years) Federal Six-Year Transportation Bill. Up until about a year ago, the Circle Line was commonly mentioned with this Bill, but then an article about 6-8 months ago, as well as today's Sun Times Article, failed to mention it. Today's Sun-Times article mentions the list of projects seeking funding in Illinois, and the ever-so-prominent Circle Line Proposal failed to make the list. Am I missing something here? Has the city canned the Circle Line? Are they looking for a different source of funding? WTF is going on here? This is the list provided in the Sun-Times today: MONEY PAVES THE WAY Here's a sampling of the more than 250 Illinois-based, high-priority projects in a pending House transportation measure that is now part of the negotiations with Senate and House conferees: $17 million for reconstruction of Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. $14.3 million to realign Irving Park (Route 19) and build grade separation for Metra tracks at Irving Park and Wood Dale roads in Wood Dale. $10 million for safety improvements along U.S. 67 from Godfrey to Viola. $9 million for reconstructing Interstate 57 from Frankfort to Mason. $10 million to construct Interstate 55 from Bolingbrook to Gardner. $9 million for construction of Interstate 70 from Greenville to Marshall. $9 million to improve roads, railroad grade-separation and six bridges in Chicago. $7 million for the Normal Multimodal Facility to provide a hub for the bus, train and airport facilities in Normal. $7 million for improvements to Route 30 in Will County. $6.96 million to replace a bridge on the Wabash River, at Mount Carmel, where it connects with Princeton, Ind. $6 million for the proposed Brisbin Road interchange at Interstate 80 in Grundy County. $3.2 million for a coordinated trail system, parking in Dixon. $4 million to expand U.S. Route 20 from Freeport to Galena. $5 million to build an Illinois 255-Bethalto overpass. $2.875 million for the Joliet Union Station commuter parking lot. $1 million for land acquisition for widening Route 47 in Yorkville. $1.6 million for renovation of historic train depot in Mattoon. $1.5 million for the University of Illinois Research Park daycare facility. $1.16 million to complete the Franklin Park Grand Avenue underpass. $1 million to help replace Brookmont Viaduct in Kankakee County. $1 million for a Peoria parking facility. $500,000 for a transportation museum at Chicago's Navy Pier. $300,000 for a study of the feasibility of having an intermodal station on the Metra Rock Island near Kennedy-King College in Chicago.> |
