hey, how about....high schools?

For all the talk we do here about colleges, we've never gotten into a discussion on Chicagoland high schools. I hope this thread will be a place where we may be able to get a sense of what the schools out there are like and how they compare. Consider (among other things): • What are the public high school elite (in both academics and facilities)? Would they include the likes of Northside, Payton, New Trier, Stevenson, Highland Park, Deerfield, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Hinsdale Central, Homewood-Floosmoor??? (note: I may well be guilty of heavily stacking North suburban/North Shore here). • Does the aura that was New Trier still exist or are there too many great suburban high schools to make this one stand out the way it once did? • What has happened to the reputation of once stellar high schools like Evanston and OPRF? Have they been tarnished by issues of race (despite being much better cross sections of society than the schools with better reputaitons)? • How does Lane hold up to newer competition in Northside, Payton, etc. • How do schools like Francis Parker, Latin, U High (U of C), North Shore Country Day, etc. match up. • Which high school has the top facilities, the best campus?>
