Since these cities are rarely talked about, I thought I would bring them up. I have an office out in Geneva and the Fox Valley area is one of the prettiest and pedesterian friendly suburbs in the Chicago metro area. Here is my review of the three areas: Batavia: Beautiful downtown on the river. Great parks, trees, wonderful restaraunts. The smallest of the tri-cities. Geneva: Probably my favorite of all the downtowns in Chicagoland outside of Naperville. Extremely pedestrian friendly downtown with shops, reteraunts, offices, etc. I call it Mayberry. You can take the Metra there and walk all the way down about 8-10 blocks lined with shops/Restaraunts. Wonderful places to eat, shops are more centered towards "older folks"(lots of antique shopping" Geneva commons on Randall road is taking away from downtown St. Charles: The "biggest" of the three. Not the size of Geneva downtown, but still a classic downtown. Great restaraunts and lot and lots of bars/pubs. Also has the historic Aracada theatre and the fox river flowing downtown. Parents live in St. Charles, only problem is lots and lots of McMansions, high property tax(one house's property tax was 55K?!?). Anyway these cities are wonderful, but the sprawl hits them as well as seen on Randall road, but the downtowns are second to none. What do others think?> |
